“We Tried That” Is Not a Valid Reason to Abandon a Channel
An unsuccessful marketing test does not prove that a channel or message will never work. Early businesses change rapidly, and a failed result may reflect the message, conversion path, timing, or another surrounding condition rather than the channel itself.
- Revisit experiments as the product and value proposition evolve
- Separate channel performance from messaging quality
- Define precisely what each experiment is testing
- Examine the complete conversion path before discarding a tactic
- Preserve a culture of continued testing
“So don't be quick to throw those things out.”
“So a channel may not work because the messaging was off, right?”
